French national team striker Kylian Mbappe insulted his Polish opponent Robert Lewandowski in the final match of the group stage at the 2024 European Football Championship.
In the 88th minute of the game, Lewandowski pushed the captain of the French team and accidentally touched his face with his hand. Mbappe complained to the main referee, took off his protective mask, touched his nose, and cursed at the Polish striker.
After the game ended in a 1-1 draw, the forwards discussed the incident and hugged. Both players scored goals from penalties during the match.
Mbappe has to wear a protective mask due to a broken nose he sustained in the opening match of the tournament against Austria.
Before the match on Tuesday, Lewandowski said that he understands how difficult it must be for Mbappe to play wearing a mask.
