The 2020 Olympic Games winner in Tokyo, former defender for Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, and the Brazilian national team Dani Alves, reportedly planned to escape if he was released on bail, as per Marca newspaper.
Being held in custody since January 2023 over a criminal case involving rape, Alves shared his intentions with his cellmates. He is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman at a club in Barcelona. During a court hearing from February 5 to 7, judges proposed a nine-year prison sentence for the ex-Seleçao player, while the victim's defense team sought a 12-year term. Consequently, Alves' contract with his most recent club, Mexican Pumas, was terminated following the allegations.
In accordance with the changes to Spanish law enacted in 2023, the charge of sexual assault encompasses various offenses, ranging from online harassment to unwanted physical contact with a woman. Although the maximum penalty for rape is 15 years, Alves may receive up to ten years in prison due to a plea agreement.
