English football club Manchester City is planning significant changes to its squad, according to Daily Record, citing Spanish expert Guillem Balague.
The club will start the renewal process this winter and continue through the summer. The source points out that City’s management believes the team has lost its “essence.” To rebuild, they plan to release 5-6 players from the starting lineup and bring in new talent to implement a fresh strategy.
The primary goal for the winter transfer window will be to strengthen the midfield. Among the main candidates for the midfielder position are Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad) and Bruno Guimarães (Newcastle). Moreover, the club is considering the possibility of signing Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.
After 17 rounds of the Premier League, Manchester City occupy the seventh spot in the standings with 27 points.
Previously, head coach Pep Guardiola commented on his team's series of setbacks and acknowledged that they would not become the Premier League champions this season.
