Malian Footballer Bissouma Faces Up to 2 Years in Prison Over Laughing Gas Video

Ives Bissouma, a 27-year-old Malian midfielder for English club Tottenham Hotspur, has come under scrutiny after posting a video on social media where he inhales nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas." Following public backlash, Bissouma deleted the video and issued an apology.

Ives Bissouma
I want to apologize for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment. I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.

Tottenham has initiated an investigation into Bissouma, who is reportedly facing allegations of possessing nitrous oxide. Since 2023, using nitrous oxide for recreational purposes has been considered a crime in the UK, punishable by up to two years in prison.

Bissouma transferred to Tottenham from Brighton in July 2022 and has since appeared in 56 matches for the club without contributing any goals. His contract with Tottenham runs until the end of June 2026, and his transfer value is estimated at 35 million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
