Head coach of the Spanish national football team, Luis de la Fuente, commented on the aggressive play from opponents towards 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal during their match against Denmark, which ended with a score of 1-0.
De la Fuente stated in an interview with AS:
Lamine plays with exceptional attitude, creating imbalance. Let them kick him; this is football. A friend of mine says, 'What do they want, kisses?' Rivals get physical. We have to apply ourselves as per the rules.
He emphasized that referees exist to establish boundaries in challenges. According to the coach, young players with exceptional talent are often intimidated and treated roughly on the field. He expressed that it is the referee's duty to protect such players.
At the same time, de la Fuente added that Yamal will need to adapt to it.
Prior to this, Relevo reported Yamal had sustained an injury during the match against the Danish national team.
After three matches, Spain currently sits at the top of Group 4 in League A, with La Roja earning seven points.
Earlier, Marca revealed that FC Barcelona intends to extend Yamal's contract until 2030.
