English football club Liverpool suffered its biggest home defeat in European cups in the quarter-final match of the Europa League against Italian side Atalanta.
In the match held on April 11 at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp's team lost 0-3. With such a crushing result, Liverpool had only previously lost European cup home matches twice: 0-3 in October 2014 and 2-5 in February 2023. Both defeats were suffered by the Reds against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The second leg match between Liverpool and Atalanta will take place next week on April 18 in Bergamo (Italy).
Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp, commenting on the devastating defeat in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, said that his team deserved to lose.
