Liverpool manager Arne Slot says it always helps to have experienced players when trying to win a league title. The Reds bounced back from a painful 2-2 draw against rivals Everton with a 2-1 win against Wolves.
That pivotal win now means Slot’s side has 60 points from 25 league games and are seven points ahead of second-placed Arsenal. Liverpool will now take on Aston Villa tomorrow night, knowing that a win would take them another giant step toward the league title and put pressure on Arsenal.
Speaking ahead of the game on Wednesday evening, the Liverpool boss admitted he is learning more about his players during this period and emphasised the impossibility of relying solely on muscle memory from when they last won the league title in 2019.
He said:
We lean a lot on the players. How much work rate do they want to put in. How do they execute the game plan. Do they adapt to the other team's game plan. It helps when a player has already won something, but don’t make that too big.
The players who won it here were 25 points clear at one point when they won the league, so there wasn’t much pressure (in the run-in).
Slot has been sensational since replacing Jurgen Klopp in the summer, with his side being by far the most consistent team in the league, and not many fans are missing their former iconic manager.
This will be the second time only in the Premier League if they can hold their breath and see out the next 13 league games. When Slot was announced as Klopp's replacement, not many envisioned that he could get the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to perform at the highest level, despite both having contracts running out in the summer.
