Barcelona president Joan Laporta has answered the question why he decided to dismiss Spanish specialist Xavi from the post of the head coach of the Blaugrana.
Laporta told Mundo Deportivo:
Everything was a bit forced when we decided to keep him on. However, there were then comments in which he changed his discourse after conversations with [sporting director] Deco with respect to necessary changes to the squad. That forced me to reconsider the situation and I felt the squad needed a new impetus to be more competitive. I have had to make these tough decisions with Barça legends. My heart told me he should stay on, but not my head.
On May 24, the press service of Barcelona reported that Xavi was officially dismissed from his position. The Spaniard led the Catalan club since 2021.
The Blaugrana finished second in the Primera standings with 85 points, ten points behind the champion Real Madrid.
It should be noted that the new head coach of Barcelona is German Hans-Dieter Flick.
The AS news outlet has learned that Xavi will refuse compensation for his resignation from Barcelona.
The Spaniard commented on his dismissal from the club, saying that he had no choice but to accept it.
