Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has called for a replay of the 7th round EPL match against Tottenham in an interview with The Guardian. The referees mistakenly did not count Luis Diaz's goal and Liverpool lost with the score 1-2.
Recall that in this match, the VAR system did not intervene after the cancelation of a clean goal by Liverpool striker Luis Diaz. Tottenham won with a score of 2-1, scoring the winning goal in the 96th minute.
Referees Darren England and Daniel Cook, who worked on the VAR crew, have been suspended indefinitely. After the game, the audio of the referees' conversations showed that England and Cook did not signal the head referee for an error and approved his decision.
Klopp said:
I think the only outcome should be a replay. That’s how it is. It probably will not happen. The argument against that will probably be if you open that gate then everybody will ask for it. I think the situation is that unprecedented that a replay would be the right thing.
After seven EPL matches in the 2023/24 season, Liverpool have 16 points and are fourth in the standings. Tottenham with 17 points go in second place.
