Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for La Liga club Real Madrid and the England national team, may face serious punishment following the 24th round match of the Spanish football championship against Osasuna.
On February 15, Real Madrid played to a 1-1 draw against Osasuna at the El Sadar stadium in Pamplona. The 21-year-old Bellingham, who started the match, received a direct red card in the 39th minute. Reportedly, the reason for the player's expulsion was the dialogue between the match referee Jose Montero and Bellingham, likely due to the player’s insulting or showing disrespect towards the referee.
If it is determined that Bellingham did indeed insult the referee, the Royal Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) disciplinary code could impose a suspension ranging from four to 12 matches. If only disrespect was established, the British player would face a ban of just two to three games.
During a post-match press conference, Real's head coach Carlo Ancelotti, commenting on the incident involving his team's player, suggested that Bellingham did not insult the referee and that the referee was simply nervous.
