Former Chelsea and England captain and defender John Terry has reacted to the news of the death of his former teammate, Hatayspor midfielder Christian Atsu.
Rest in peace my friend.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian footballer went missing under the rubble in Hatay province on Feb. 6 during a series of powerful earthquakes that rattled southeastern Turkey and northern Syria. The media repeatedly reported that Atsu had been rescued, but each time the rumors were denied. On February 18, the player's agent, Murat Uzunmehmet, announced that rescuers had found the midfielder's body under the rubble.
Atsu had played for Chelsea, Porto, Everton, Malaga and Newcastle. He made 60 appearances for Ghana, scoring 10 goals, and was a finalist in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and the tournament's best player.
