Midfielder of English Newcastle and the national team of Italy Sandro Tonali confessed to making bets on Milan matches while playing in its lineup.
A hearing on the case of the midfielder took place on Tuesday, October 17. Nicolo Fagioli of Juventus, who is suspected of similar activities, has been disqualified until May 2024.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the fact that Tonali's bets did not affect his performance on the pitch could be a mitigating factor, as well as his decision to cooperate with the investigation. Thanks to these factors, the midfielder may get as little as a year of suspension instead of three years without playing in the EPL.
Earlier, Tonali's agent Giuseppe Rizzo expressed hope that the situation with game addiction will save the player's life.
The Newcastle rookie has played ten matches in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
