Tusker FC suffered a massive dent into their title ambitions as they lost 2-1 to mid-table Mathare United, to remain second in the FKF Premier League standings, a point below leaders Police FC.
The Brewers could have regained their two-point advantage with a victory against Mathare, but the defeat leaves fate off their hands with six games to go. It was a match where they had led 1-0, but conceded two second half goals from substitute Musa Masika.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net, assistant captain Michael Kibwage says the defeat stung deep, but has reiterated their title ambitions are still blazing as ever, and will give their all for the remaining six games of the season.
It was very painful to lose that match. We had very good control of the game but lost concentration at crucial points. We also didn’t play well in the second half. But we have picked valuable lessons from that game. As much as it was a result we did not want, we have to pick ourselves up for the remaining games. We still have a very good chance and we have to make sure we do not drop any more points. The games ahead of us are tough and we need to fold our sleeves and work harder.
Tusker face AFC Leopards next, a tough fixture, and a further defeat will be detrimental to their title ambitions. But, with title rivals Kenya Police and defending champions Gor Mahia also facing tough fixtures, Kibwage says they must be ready to take advantage of any slips.
