Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino has commented on the performance of 36-year-old Argentine forward Lionel Messi in the home match of the regular MLS season against New York Red Bulls.
At the post-match press conference Martino said:
Messi makes the difference, always. He participated in six goals – I don't think we will ever see anything like that again.
The match ended with a convincing 6-2 victory for Inter Miami. Messi scored one goal in the match and provided five assists, becoming the first player in MLS history to have five assists in a single game.
Messi has been representing Inter Miami since the summer of 2023. In 24 matches played for the American team, the Argentine forward has scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists. His contract with Inter Miami is set to run until mid-2025. Messi has a market value of €30 million according to Transfermarkt.
After this victory, Martino's team reached the top of the Eastern Conference with 24 points, while the Red Bulls are in fourth place with 17 points.
Previously, the Inter Miami press service announced that Messi was named the best player in the MLS for April.
