Insider Nicolo Schira announced on social media that Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid wishes to extend the current contract with team captain and midfielder Luka Modric until the end of June 2026.
It’s important to note that the existing contract with the 39-year-old "Croatian Cruyff" expires at the end of June 2025. Reports suggest that Modric himself is also keen to stay with los Blancos, seeking playing time leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
On December 4, 2024, journalist Jose Felix Diaz reported that, conversely, Modric wants to leave the Madrid team at the end of the 2024/2025 season, while intending to play one more season.
In the current season, the midfielder has played in 23 La Liga matches, scoring one goal and providing three assists, as well as ten matches in the UEFA Champions League (three assists). Transfermarkt currently estimates Modric at five million euros.
