Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that midfielder Rodri has undergone surgery and will be sidelined for the remainder of the current season.
Guardiola was quoted by Manchester City's press service as saying:
He had surgery this morning. ACL and some meniscus, we think. Next season he will be with us. This season is over.
It’s worth noting that Rodri sustained the injury during the first half of the match against Arsenal in the English Premier League on September 22, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Reports indicated that the 28-year-old defensive midfielder had a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.
In other news, World Cup champion Lothar Matthäus said that he believes Rodri deserves the Ballon d'Or more than Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior for the 2024 awards.
