Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will take on record African champions Al Ahly in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round duel in Nairobi this weekend.

It will be a massive game for Gor, nicknamed K’Ogalo, as they dream of making it to the group stages of Continental football, but will have to give a massive performance against the holders.

Speaking to Telecomasia.net, defender Alphonce Omija says they are preparing for a game of their lives and are keen to get a good result at home, but know the weight of duty awaiting them.

Omija, also a Kenyan national team player, said
This will be a huge game, and the game of our lives. Al Ahly have their track record and everyone knows how good they are. But, we don’t fear them. In football, what matters is the work you put in on the field in 90 minutes. We know it’s a massive task, but we are playing at home. We should approach the game with confidence, and our ambition is to win.

It had been feared that the 23-year old defender would miss the game due to injury, after he was substituted in national team duty against Zimbabwe last week after picking up an injury.

Alphonce Omija
I came back home immediately and we ran some tests. I have also done an MRI and at least there is no major worry. It was just a bruise and an inflammation and I have been given a go ahead to train.

Omija scored during Gor’s last round match against South Sudan’s El Merrikh Bentiu, and hopes to be on the scoresheet again.
