The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has announced the nominees for the Player of the Week award in the Champions League following the matches of the sixth round. Among the four players nominated are Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olise, Atlético striker Antoine Griezmann, and Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot.
Notably, it is the first time this season that a goalkeeper has been included in the list of nominees by UEFA technical observers.
Bukayo Saka scored two goals and provided an assist in the match against Monaco (3:0), Antoine Griezmann also scored a brace against Slovan (3:1), Michael Olise had a brace in the game against Shakhtar (5:1), while Marco Bizot made four saves in the match against PSV, helping his team win 1:0. Brestois became the first club in nine months to prevent the Dutch team from scoring in all competitions.
Earlier, UEFA’s press office reported that a new scoring record was set during the fifth round of the group stage of the Champions League.
The 35-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Müller, who scored in the match against Shakhtar (5:1), matched the achievements of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs for the number of consecutive seasons with goals in Europe’s main tournament.
