Press service of the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the appointment of Stéphanie Frappart as head referee for the match of the third round of the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar between Costa Rica and Germany, which will be held on December 1.
Thus, for the first time in the history of the men's World Cup, the game will be officiated by a woman. Neuza Beck of Brazil and Karen Díaz of Mexico will be assisting Frappart in the Costa Rica vs. Germany game. Previously, Frappart was a reserve referee for the 2022 World Cup match between Mexico and Poland.
Recall that in 2019, the 38-year-old Frappar officiated the UEFA Super Cup match, becoming the first female referee to officiate a men's Champions League match.
