Assistant coach of the French national team Guy Stephan commented on the physical condition of forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of the Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Portugal.
Guy Stephan told L'Equipe:
We all downplayed Mbappe's broken nose a bit. It doesn't explain everything, but the shock was traumatic. The mask he is forced to play with is not easy, it's difficult for his peripheral vision. He also had a somewhat tiring end to the season. But Kylian remains a top, top level player. There are times when these top-level players are a little less good.
Recall that Mbappe missed the remaining matches of the Euro 2024 group stage due to a broken nose in the first round game against Austria. Currently, the French forward takes to the field wearing a special protective mask.
The match between Portugal and France will take place on July 5 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. The match is scheduled to begin at 22:00 GMT+3.
Earlier, Mbappe complained about the discomfort of playing in a mask due to his broken nose.
Additionally, the French national team unveiled a new mask for the forward that fits better on the face and allows for better airflow.
