Former Chelsea and Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has criticized France striker Kylian Mbappe as captain of the national team.
He said on Optus Sport Football Podcast:
We've seen it over history, some players really thrive with it and others who don't, who find the burden of the armband really tough to deal with. When you hear him doing the press conference like that, you're thinking, 'Well actually that's not the things he should be saying'. He should be behind his players going on about how good they are, fantastic and it'll come good.' As opposed to saying, 'No, they haven't been great'. I think that's bad for team morale.
Mbappe has played four matches at the current Euro 2024 (two in the group stage and two in the playoffs), where he scored only one goal with a penalty against Poland (1:1).
France will face Spain in the semifinals. The match will be held on July 9, the start is scheduled for 22:00 GMT+3.
According to Le Parisien newspaper, Mbappe's disappointing results at the European Championship-2024 are influenced by several factors: injury, conflict with his former club and the political situation in the country.
The French national team coach Didier Deschamps commented on the current form of the star striker.
