In an interview with MundoDeportivo, the 58-year-old former striker of the Brazilian national team and Barcelona, Romario, criticized the playing style of modern footballers.
Romario retired in 2008, with his last club being America from Rio de Janeiro. He signed a contract with them again in April 2024 to play together with his son.

I think that on the field my success would be greater because today the guys are very stupid. They run too much. In my time, football was also physical, it was always like that, but the players were much more technical and much more intelligent... I’m sure I would score more than 2,000 goals today.
During his career, the 58-year-old Brazilian scored 225 goals and made 36 assists in 300 matches. The ex-forward was most productive at the Dutch club PSV.
