Football referee Robert Sibiga spoke about the difficulties faced by referees working at matches involving Argentine striker Lionel Messi.
Robert Sibiga, quoted by The Athletic
As a referee, the last thing you want to see is messing up the game or letting players who have far less talent and experience do something to a player like Lionel Messi. The worst thing that can happen is if he walks away saying the referees influenced the game. Whether he is right or not – it will no longer matter.
Messi played for PSG in the 2022/23 season. He played 41 matches for the French club in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and making 20 assists. In the summer transfer window the striker moved to Inter Miami of the United States.
