Football Italia: Buffon May Leave National Team Post After Euro Failure

Former goalkeeper of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and the Italian national team, head of the Azzurri delegation, and 2006 World Cup champion Gianluigi Buffon, according to Football Italia, could step down from his role following Italy's exit from Euro-2024.

The source reported that the 46-year-old Buffon will soon meet with the Italian Football Federation leadership to discuss his future in the national team. There is a high likelihood that the veteran will depart from the team.

On June 29 in Berlin, Italy, who advanced to the playoffs from second place in Group B, were defeated 0:2 by Switzerland in the Round of 16 match, ending their tournament early and failing to defend their title as reigning champions of Europe.

On June 30, sports journalist and insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Italy national team head coach Luciano Spalletti will retain his post despite the national team's disappointing performance at the Euros.
