The International Football Federation (FIFA) has issued a statement regarding the national team's first goal in the second round of the group stage match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar against Uruguay.

FIFA statement provided to ESPN
In the match between Portugal and Uruguay, using the Connected Ball Technology housed in adidas's Al Rihla Official Match Ball, we are able to definitively show no contact on the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo for the opening goal in the game. No external force on the ball could be measured as shown by the lack of 'heartbeat' in our measurements.

The Portuguese national team defeated the Uruguayan national team 2-0 in the second round of the group stage match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which took place on November 28. The double was scored by midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

In the opening goal, the ball allegedly touched the tip of Ronaldo's hair as he tried to complete Fernandes' pass.

With this win, the Portuguese secured their participation in the World Cup playoffs with six points in two rounds. Uruguay, with one point, is fourth in Group H.
