FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly opposed the introduction of blue cards in football, which would be shown for tactical fouls or excessive dissent towards the referee.
Infantino told The Guardian:
FIFA is completely opposed to blue cards. I was not aware of this topic - as the president of FIFA. We are always open to look at ideas and proposals. But once you look at it, you also have to protect the essence and tradition of the game. There is no blue card.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) had recently announced plans to trial blue cards, which would result in a player being temporarily sent off for 10 minutes.
