The format of the European football Super League is determined. 64 clubs are expected to take part in the tournament. The launch is planned for 2025.
Sixty-four teams will be divided into three leagues. Competitions within each league will be held in two stages - "league stage" and "play-off stage". The preliminary composition of the European Super League leagues will be as follows:
Star League - two groups of eight teams each.
Gold League - two groups of eight teams each.
Blue League - 32 teams divided into four groups.
In the first stage, the clubs will play a two-round tournament within the leagues in a home-and-away format. The top four teams in the table will qualify for the playoffs from the Star League and Gold League, while only two teams will qualify from the Blue League. The playoff stage will start with quarterfinals.
Moreover, there is also a rotation between the leagues. Two worst teams in the Star League will be relegated to the Gold League. Two best teams of the Gold League will advance to the Star League.
The worst teams in the Gold League rotate with clubs from the Blue League. At the end of the season of the European Super League, 20 clubs are to leave the Blue League and be replaced by the best teams from the national championships.
On December 21 it became known that the Court of Justice of the European Union sided with the organizers of the Super League and declared the ban on FIFA and UEFA to create a new championship illegal. Now the Super League can officially organize a tournament under European laws. The launch of the new tournament is expected to take place in 2025.
