Defender and captain of Sochi Vanja Drkusic reacted to making it to the extended list of the Slovenian national team for the Euro 2024 championship for Telecomasia.net.
I expected the call. I have been playing for the Slovenian national team for a year and a half now, and I am happy to see my name in the extended list for the European Championship. Our group is very tough, but there are no easy groups in the Euros. We know our level. There is a good atmosphere in the team, but we have not yet spoken about our goals, but of course, we aren’t going there just for three games. We are going for the result.
“They called up a player from a team that got relegated? It’s hard for me to assess myself. Yes, we were relegated from the RPL, and it's sad... But it does not affect my skills and the level of the Slovenian national team," Drkusic said.
Slovenia is in Group C at Euro 2024 with Denmark, Serbia, and England. The team's opening match in the tournament will be on Sunday, June 16 against Denmark, the start is at 19:00 GMT+3.
Drkusic scored two goals in 22 matches this season in the Russian Premier League (RPL). The Transfermarkt website estimates the 24-year-old player at 3 million euros.
