Midfielder of Portuguese club Benfica and the Argentine national team Angel Di Maria has received death threats after expressing his desire to end his career at Rosario Central, where he was raised, reports Daily Mail.
According to sources, the midfielder received a threat at his family home on the outskirts of Rosario. The message was thrown from a car in a package. The letter states that even the governor of the Argentine province Maximiliano Pullaro would not be able to guarantee Di Maria's safety if he returns to the city.
It is worth noting that the midfielder started at the Atletico El Torito club before going to Rosario Central at 13. He had his debut for Rosario Central at the age of 17 in the Argentine top division.
The Argentine police have indicated that the authors of the threat could be drug traffickers engaged in a war with the governor and seeking maximum publicity by involving the football player in this story.
