Croatia defeats Japan in a penalty shootout to advance to the quarterfinals of World Cup 2022

The Croatian national team defeated the Japanese national team in a penalty shootout in the last 16 match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The main and extra time of the match ended with a score of 1-1. In the 43rd minute, Japanese forward Daizen Maeda scored the first goal, while defender Maya Yoshida gave an assist. 55 minutes into the match, an assist from St. Petersburg's Zenit defender Dejan Lovren helped forward Ivan Perišić score a goal.

In the series of penalty kicks, the Europeans were more accurate. Three Japanese shots were stopped by Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livaković.

Japan vs Croatia - 1-1 (1-0), penalty shootout - 1-3.

Goals: 1-0 - 43 Maeda, 1-1 - 55 Perišić

In the quarterfinals, Croatia will play the winner of the match Brazil vs. South Korea, which will be held on December 5.
