Former Atalanta and Chile forward Mauricio Pinilla criticized the behavior of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.
Martínez showed a baby doll with the face of French forward Kylian Mbappé during a championship parade in Buenos Aires to celebrate his country's 2022 World Cup triumph. Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick in the Qatar final and also converted a penalty in the penalty shootout (3-3, 2-4). Earlier in the locker room after the match, the Aston Villa goalkeeper declared a moment of silence "for Mbappé, who died."
If I were a goalkeeper, I would never show up with a puppet of a guy who scored 4 goals in my net with 4 strikes. Mbappé took 4 shots at his net and scored 4 times! If I were Martínez, I would just hug Kylian and show him my love instead of walking around like that. The Chilean team won the America's Cup twice, we didn't walk around with a picture of Messi or anything like that. Who am I to make fun of Messi? And who is Martinez to make fun of Mbappe? The Frenchman will undoubtedly become a world legend. Emiliano will be remembered for only taking a couple of penalties.
Pinilla famously got a tattoo dedicated to his miss in the 2014 World Cup round of 16 match against Brazil. At the very end of extra time, the Chilean hit the bar, and in the penalty shootout, the Brazilians won and advanced to the quarterfinals.
