According to data from the CIES Football Observatory, English Premier League (EPL) club Chelsea is at the bottom of the list of football clubs based on transfer balance over the past five seasons.
The Blues have accumulated a deficit of €782 million. Joining them in this negative ranking are four other English clubs: Manchester United (-€773 million), Arsenal (-€622 million), Tottenham Hotspur (-€608 million), and Newcastle United (-€574 million).
Topping the list of the most successful clubs is Portuguese side Benfica (+€354 million). Following closely is Dutch club Ajax, earning €349 million from transfers, with French Ligue 1's Lille rounding out the top three with a balance of +€282 million.
A total of 169 clubs worldwide are included in the ranking, whose transfer dealings over the last five seasons have surpassed the €100 million mark.
After 25 matches in the 2023/2024 EPL season, Mauricio Pochettino's team has earned 35 points, securing the tenth position on the league table.
