Chelsea defender Thiago Silva in an interview with the press service of the London club said that after moving to Dynamo Moscow he experienced the most difficult time in his life.
I spent six months in Russia. It was one of the worst times of my life. I didn’t know if I was ever going to be able to play football again. I just had a dream that I would, but I didn’t know for sure. I moved to Dynamo Moscow in Russia on loan from Porto and during the pre-season, I suddenly started to feel very ill. I had some tests done on me and it was confirmed I had tuberculosis and that it was already very advanced. Because of how advanced it was, the doctors decided it would be best for me to stay in hospital for treatment.
According to him, the Russian doctors suggested a lung surgery, but then there was a high risk that Silva would not return to playing football. Then the athlete listened to the opinions of people close to him - his mother, girlfriend and manager - and decided to check out of the Russian hospital to return to Portugal.
The defender continued his treatment in Europe. He took medication for several months until the disease was gone. Silva could return to football.
The athlete added that after this experience, he was eager not only to play, but also to win all the trophies he had previously dreamed of.
The defender did not play a single game in the Dynamo squad. After being treated for tuberculosis the defender became the owner of the Cup of Brazil, the Serie A winner and the winner of the Italian Cup, seven-time champion of France, five-time winner of the French Cup and five-time winner of the French Super Cup, winner of the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup, and also the owner of the Confederations Cup and the Cup of America with the Brazilian team.
