CAS Rejects Rubiales' Appeal Against Football Ban

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal from Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), regarding his three-year ban from football activities.

This incident took place on August 20, 2023, during the awards ceremony after the Women's World Cup final, where Spain defeated England 1-0. Rubiales kissed Spanish player Jennifer Hermoso during the ceremony, sparking widespread public backlash. Following the incident, Hermoso filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office, which opened a criminal case.

Subsequently, Rubiales was temporarily suspended from FIFA and resigned as RFEF president in September 2023. The prosecution sought a 2.5-year prison sentence against him for charges of sexual assault and coercion. On February 20, 2025, it became known that the court ordered Rubiales to pay a fine related to the Hermoso case and prohibited him from approaching Hermoso within 200 meters or contacting her for one year.

Later reports indicated that the official avoided jail time.
