Burundi Football Federation President Alexandre Muyenge stated in an interview with Telecomasia.net that the Burundi national football team is interested in scheduling a friendly match with the Russian national team.
Alexandre Muyenge exclusively for Telecom Asia Sport
We understand that political interference in sports is a significant issue at present. Our national team is interested in a friendly match with Russia. However, whether the match occurs will depend on the conditions that the Russian Football Union can offer.
It is worth noting that on October 7, the Russian national team began its training camp in Novogorsk, involving 28 players. However, no opponents for friendly matches during this training session have been found.
The Russian national team is currently ranked 34th in the FIFA rankings, while Burundi is ranked 136th.
FIFA and UEFA suspended the Russian national teams and domestic clubs from international competitions under their aegis on February 28, 2022.
