The press service of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has officially announced the appointment of Croatian coach Niko Kovac as the team’s new head coach.
The 53-year-old Croatian, who has German roots, has signed a contract with the BVB until the end of June 2026 and is set to start his duties on February 2, after the team's match against Heidenheim in the 20th round of the championship.
On January 22, it was revealed that the club's management had decided to part ways with the previous head coach, Nuri Sahin.
Kovac's most recent managerial role was at VfL Wolfsburg, where he served from 2022 to 2024. Throughout his coaching career, he has also worked with Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, AS Monaco, as well as with both the youth and senior national teams of Croatia.
After 19 matches in the 2024/2025 Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund have accumulated 26 points, placing them in eleventh place in the German championship standings. Meanwhile, Dortmund finished tenth in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League after eight matches, accumulating 15 points and qualifying for the playoff round.
