On February 21, Real Madrid defeated Liverpool in the last 16 of the 2022/23 Champions League. Los Blancos won 5-2.
French striker Karim Benzema scored twice for the Real club (55th and 67th minute). The 35-year-old forward now has two goals and an assist in his five Champions League 2022/2023 appearances.
This is the 18th consecutive season for Benzema to score in the Old World's biggest club competition. Previously, only Argentine forward Lionel Messi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, could boast such a record.
The return leg between Real Madrid and Liverpool will be played on March 11 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.
