Catalan club FC Barcelona is working towards finalizing a new agreement with 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal.
According to AS, a key issue in the negotiations is determining the structure of the player's salary for the upcoming years.
The club aims to offer Yamal a contract that includes a gradual increase in his salary each season. Barcelona recognize that this young forward is a crucial figure in enhancing the club's brand profitability.
However, the club's management is keen to avoid any imbalances in the payroll system and prevent a repeat of the situation with Lionel Messi, whose contract could not be registered in 2021 due to financial restrictions imposed by La Liga. The Spanish league's rules prevent clubs from registering players if their salary expenses exceed 70% of their total income. In Messi's case, this figure would have surpassed 100%.
Yamal's current contract with Barcelona is valid until the summer of 2026.
