Previously, La Liga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation denied the Catalans' request to register the players due to the club's financial difficulties. However, the National Sports Council permitted the temporary addition of the players to the squad until a final decision is reached.

Earlier, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti declined to comment on Olmo and Victor's registration. There were reports that Barcelona players were planning to boycott the Spanish national team if Olmo was not registered.
