According to Madrid Xtra, citing journalist Arancha Rodriguez from SORÉ, the initiative for Real Madrid's boycott of the Ballon d'Or ceremony came from the club's head coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti decided not to attend the ceremony after learning that Vinicius Junior would not receive an award. According to the journalist, the Italian coach prioritized the comfort of both the player and the team in this situation.
On the night of the awards for the previous season organized by France Football, not a single representative from Real Madrid attended. The Madrid club was recognized as the best men's team, Ancelotti was named the best coach, while Kylian Mbappe shared the Gerd Müller trophy along with Harry Kane.
Real Madrid currently sit in second place in the La Liga standings with 24 points.
Previously, Relevo reported that the royal club's management is considering the option of parting ways with the Italian coach.
