Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti explained the reasons behind his team’s heavy defeat in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal, which ended in a 0-3 result.
Carlo Ancelotti
For an hour the team was good and then we paid dearly for their two goals from set pieces. Mentally we didn’t have a good attitude in the second half. It is a tough defeat, especially because of what we didn’t know what to do in the second half. And because in the first half we did quite well. The team fell mentally and could not react.
It’s worth noting that both goals from set pieces were scored by Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, making him the fifth player in UEFA Champions League history to achieve this record.
The return leg will take place in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday, April 16.
Earlier, it was reported that Real became the first club in UEFA Champions League history to reach the quarter-finals 40 times.
Additionally, Madrid recently surpassed 500 matches played in the Champions League.
