Football agent Paulo Barbosa evaluated the performance of Portugal's national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo in the match against Turkey (3-0) during the second round of the Euro 2024 group stage.
Sometimes there are games without goals, but today Ronaldo played better than against the Czech Republic. Nonetheless, other forwards need to step up; we haven't seen much from Gonçalo Ramos of PSG, who is also a capable player and can play a big role in this team.
"Of course, Ronaldo has personal goals too. It’s not just talk when he says he wants to play in the 2026 World Cup. But the fact that he provided an assist for the third goal is good. It shows that Cristiano is ready to play differently and not just for himself. He wants his partners to give him the ball, so he needs to do something for them. Cristiano needs to demonstrate that he pursues not only personal interests," Barbosa said to Telecomasia.net.
The 39-year-old Portuguese now holds the record for seven assists in European Championships, the best in the tournament's history. Ronaldo surpassed Czech player Karel Poborsky. David Beckham, Arjen Robben, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Luis Figo, Cesc Fàbregas, and Bastian Schweinsteiger all have five assists each.
Portugal became the third team to advance to the Euro 2024 playoffs. Earlier, Spain and tournament hosts Germany qualified for the Round of 16. In the third match of Group F, Portugal will face Georgia on June 26.
