Real Madrid and Austria national team defender David Alaba is reportedly preparing to retire from professional football due to thinning joint cartilage, according to A Bola.
Sources indicate that the 32-year-old Alaba has been experiencing pain since returning to full team training. Recall that in December 2023, during a match against Villarreal (4-1), he tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee and had to be substituted after just 35 minutes on the field. Since then, Alaba has undergone two surgeries and has not appeared in official matches.
Alaba's current contract with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of June 2026. Transfermarkt reports his market value at 15 million euros.
