During the Euro 2024 Round of 16 match between France and Belgium (1-0), defender Jan Vertonghen accidentally scored an own goal, leading the French team to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the 85th minute, with a score of 0-0, he attempted to block a shot by Randal Kolo-Muani, but the ball rebounded off his legs into the net.
This own goal was the ninth in the tournament held in Germany. Meanwhile, the top scorers of the competition have three goals each.
In the quarterfinals, France will face the winner of the Portugal vs. Slovenia match.
