An investigation continues in Italy into sports betting on illegal platforms. Corriere della Sera has reported new names of footballers who may face penalties for participating in gambling and casino games.
According to sources, the Milan prosecutor's office is investigating 12 Serie A players, who are suspected of placing bets on illegal sites and playing online poker from 2021 to 2023.
The updated list of suspects includes Weston McKennie (Juventus), Mattia Perin (Juventus), Ángel Di María (Benfica), Alessandro Florenzi (Milan), Nicolò Zaniolo (Galatasaray), and others.
It is clarified that not all of them placed bets on sports on illegal platforms; some are under investigation due to their participation in online poker and casino games. A ban is considered unlikely for this group of players.
Earlier reports revealed that Di María received death threats directed at himself and his family due to his desire to return to his former club Rosario Central.
