Dutch Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen has declined to talk about the penalty he received for cutting the first corner at the start of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Formula 1 while battling for the lead with McLaren's Oscar Piastri.
Verstappen believes that discussing the matter could lead to further sanctions from the FIA.
The problem is that I cannot share my opinion about it, because I might get penalized also. It's better not to speak about it. I think it's just the world we live in," he said. "You can't share fully your opinion, because it's not appreciated, apparently. Or people can't handle the full truth.
It’s worth noting that Oscar Piastri managed to level with Max Verstappen before the first corner, forcing him to cut the turn.
The 24-year-old Australian completed the 50-lap race in 1:21:06.758, becoming the new leader in the championship standings. Max Verstappen finished second (+2.843), while Charles Leclerc from Ferrari crossed the line in third (+8.104).
Earlier, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner showed reporters a photo claiming that Verstappen’s penalty for the first corner incident at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was unjust.
