Sainz Penalty Confirmed for Blocking Hamilton at Japanese Grand Prix

The stewards of Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix have completed their investigation into the incident during the second qualifying segment involving Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari).

The Spanish driver impeded the British racer in the first sector of his fast lap. As a result of the investigation, Sainz received the standard penalty for blocking – a loss of three grid positions.

The stewards noted that Sainz’s team had enough time to warn him about Hamilton starting his fast lap since Hamilton was not heading into the pits. As a result, Sainz will start the race from 15th position instead of 12th.

Earlier, Hamilton commented on his eighth-place finish in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.
