Motorsport.com reports that Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, a reserve pilot for the F1 team Alpine, may step in to replace Yuki Tsunoda behind the wheel of a Racing Bulls car if Tsunoda leaves for Red Bull Racing.
On March 23, F1-Insider published news stating that 24-year-old Tsunoda will take over as the main driver for the Austrian team ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, replacing New Zealander Liam Lawson, who has yet to score points in the first two races of the 2025 season. In this scenario, 21-year-old Colapinto would become the main driver for RB instead of Tsunoda.
On October 12, 2024, Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko had already mentioned that the Japanese driver could become a teammate to reigning world champion Max Verstappen from the Netherlands in the Red Bulls team.
In the first two races of the current F1 season held in Australia and China, Tsunoda has earned three points, placing him thirteenth in the individual standings. Leading the rankings is British McLaren driver Lando Norris with 44 points.
