Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was fined $50,000 for the incident at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Qatar, the press service of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) reported.
Hamilton finished the race as early as the second lap, after a crash with his teammate George Russell. After the incident, the driver walked across the track to the pit. Stewards considered these actions dangerous.
During the hearing Hamilton admitted that the situation could cause harmful consequences for him and for other participants of the race. The pilot apologized for his actions. As punishment, the driver was fined and reprimanded.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen became the winner of the Grand Prix of Qatar, having won the 14th victory in the current season. The Dutch driver earlier became the F1 champion for the third time in a row.
