McLaren is investigating whether Oscar Piastri violated the team's "Papaya Rules" during his overtake of teammate Lando Norris at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Norris, who started on pole, finished third, losing ground in the championship race.
The incident occurred when Piastri passed Norris at the second chicane, allowing Charles Leclerc to move forward as well. McLaren had instructed drivers to race each other but emphasized the need for caution to avoid collisions.
Norris described the maneuver as “too close for comfort,” and team principal Andrea Stella confirmed the review of Piastri's actions, stating, "We will assess together whether they were fully compliant or not."
Despite the challenges, Norris gained eight points on Max Verstappen, who finished sixth. As of now, Norris trails Verstappen by 62 points with eight races remaining in the 2024 season.
